Not too long ago Funko released details about their 2021 Funko Harry Potter Advent Calendar and I was faced with a decision. Buy it or skip it. I’ve bought every one of these sets in the past so it might seem like an obvious answer, but I am still pondering whether or not I will get it this year. I’m going to make a decision by the end of this article.
This will be the fourth time they have released an advent calendar for this fandom. Since 2018 they have released one set per year. I bought both of those and like them. I don’t love them because I keep hoping that Funko will embrace the holiday season and include Christmas items from the films like a tree or items from the Yule Ball, and so far that hasn’t happened.
The 2020 calendar had duplicates from the 2019 calendar so it felt like Funk had gotten lazy. And that wasn’t the only kind of duplicate issue that this calendar suffered from. Many people, myself included, received duplicate items IN their calendar, meaning they didn’t get everything that they should have. I contacted Funko about my duplicate/missing figures and was told that they couldn’t do anything, that I had to go back to where I bought mine from to exchange it for a new one. Fortunately, I was able to do that and the new one had the character that I was missing, but this seemed like poor customer support on the part of Funko.
I was hopeful that the 2021 calendar would learn from the problems of previous entries but… They didn’t. There is only one truly new figure. One. As in… ONE!!!!
You Can Buy This Set on Amazon and eBay
There are 24 characters in this collection, that’s 24 opportunities to create new figures that we fans haven’t seen before. But did Funko do that? No, they pulled out their previous molds and used those.
Now, to be fair, there are a few very slight changes on some of the figures, but the differences aren’t enough to make me want to spend money on this. I am not a Harry Potter Funko completionist and haven’t been for about one-and-a-half years, when they continued to give us the same characters over and over, instead of giving us new ones.
Spoiler Alert: Before you read any further I need to disclose that there are spoilers in this post so stop reading if you don’t want to learn what characters are in this set.
All 24 Harry Potter Figurines
So, here is a list of the characters that you will find in the 2021 set, and what makes them slightly different from previous sets, if anything. I don’t have the set so I don’t have individual pictures, but I did discover what is included with my research. Just call me Rita Skeeter! These are listed in alphabetical order, not in the order that they are numbered in the calendar.
- Albus Dumbledore, repeat with a slight change – Dumbledore is wearing his maroon colored robe and hat, which is identical to the figure included in the 2018 set. The only difference is that he has a metallic sheen.
- Crookshanks, repeat with a slight change – He was included in the 2018 and 2020 sets but this year he is flocked, which is a slight change.

- Sybill Trelawney – She is dressed in her shawls and professor clothes. This is it, the only truly new and unique figure in this entire set.
- Thestral, repeat – This creature is identical to the figure included in the 2018 set.
Dear Funko, please do better next year and stop giving us almost nothing but duplicates.
Now that I’ve told you what the figures are I will answer the question as to whether or not I will buy the 2021 set. No, no I won’t. I do not feel like spending all that money just to get one new character.
Should you get it? Only you can decide that one, but at least you can make an informed decision based on the information that I have shared with you.
What are your thoughts on the new set? Will you be buying it? Why or why not?
