The coronavirus pandemic has changed the way kids go to school but one girl, Bella, didn’t let that slow her down when she was told that she had to do a book report. Part of her report was to include a PowerPoint presentation with pictures, which proved to be no problem for Bella.
Her parents are every bit as much fans of the wizarding world as I am, so I wasn’t the least bit surprised when her mom told me that her daughter chose Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone for her report.
Ironically enough, Bella was 9-3/4 old when she did this report. How perfect is that? Her mother was excited when I asked if I could share the pictures that Bella created using LEGO minifigures. What you see below were all made by young Bella, using her creativity and the LEGO bricks and minifigs that she and her family have. Well done, Bella!
By the way, the text describing each scene is mine, not Bella’s.
Chapter One: The Boy Who Lived |
Albus Dumbledore and Minerva McGonagall leave baby Harry on the doorstep of his new home. Closer inspection of the “baby” will show that this is actually Lord Voldemort, but Bella used this since she didn’t have a baby Harry LEGO piece (there isn’t one as of this writing) and hoped that her teacher wouldn’t know the difference (she didn’t).
Chapter Two: The Vanishing Glass |
Harry is surprised to discover that the snake understands him, and he understands the snake. I wonder why that is…???
Chapter Three: The Letters From No One |
Uncle Vernon is keeping the unknown letter away from Harry, as Aunt Petunia looks on. I love the pictures of baby Dudley that Bella drew on the wall.
Chapter Five: Diagon Alley |
Harry marvels at all the amazing stores and magical merchandise as Hagrid takes him shopping in Diagon Alley for the first time. Here they are going over the items that Harry will need from the supplies written in his Hogwarts letter.
Chapter Five: Diagon Alley |
Harry met Draco Malfoy for the first time in Diagon Alley. Harry knew from the first moment that he saw Draco that they would never be friends. As you can see, Hagrid has given Hedwig to Harry, who is holding on to the money gathered from his vault deep within Gringotts.
Chapter Six: The Journey From Platform Nine and Three-quarters |
Harry is finally on his way to Hogwarts by riding on the Hogwarts Express. This is when he met Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, who would become his best friends.
Chapter Seven: The Sorting Hat |
Harry wearing the Sorting Hat as he waits to find out what House he belongs in. Of course, we all know that he ended up in Gryffindor, where he was welcomed with loud cheers and clapping.
Chapter Nine: The Midnight Duel |
Harry joins the Quidditch team as the younger player in over 100 years. Draco Malfoy was green with envy! Which matched his Slytherin attire quite nicely…
Chapter Nine: The Midnight Duel |
Harry, Hermione, and Ron accidentally meet Fluffy, the three-headed dog. Hermione was the only one who saw that Fluffy was standing guard over a trap door. I wonder what is inside…???
Chapter Twelve: The Mirror of Erised |
Harry finds the Mirror of Erised and sees what he most desires – him surrounded by his family. Bella was very clever in how she created the Cloak of Invisibility, which Harry used to sneak off to see the mirror.
Chapter Fourteen: Norbert the Norwegian Ridgeback |
Norbert proves too much for Hagrid so he is sent away where he can be a happy dragon. We later find out that he is actually a she, and renamed Norberta by Charlie Weasley.
Chapter Sixteen: Through the Trapdoor |
Harry, Ron, and Hermione talk to McGonagall to find out where Dumbledore is. They think that Severus Snape is trying to steal the Sorcerer’s Stone and want the Headmaster to stop him. But, alas, the Headmaster is off on Ministry business. The looks on all their faces are perfect!
Chapter Sixteen: Through the Trapdoor |
Harry, Ron, and Hermione play a magical game of chess, one designed by Professor McGonagall to protect the Sorcerer’s Stone. She never imagined that an 11 year old boy would be smart enough to win.
Chapter Seventeen: The Man with Two Faces |
Harry plucks up his courage as he tries to figure out how to best Professor Quirrell and Lord Voldemort while keeping the Sorcerer’s Stone safe. How could it be Quirrell and not Snape who was the bad guy all along???
Chapter Seventeen: The Man with Two Faces |
Gryffindor ends up winning the House Cup at the end of term feast. Yes, it was mean of Dumbledore to pull the rug out from all the Slytherins at the last moment, but Harry did risk his life, so the points he earned were well deserved.
