My 2020 Funko Harry Potter advent calendar arrived yesterday and I was really excited to see what was included this year. This is the third year that Funko has released a Christmas set, and my hope before opening it was that it would be 100% holiday-themed.
I’m not going to lie, I was disappointed. None of the three sets are truly holidayish. The 2019 set probably came closest because the figures were dressed for Yule Ball festivities, but I want Christmas. The 2020 set is about half what I wanted and half small versions of previous releases that have nothing to do with the holiday season, and one or two new figures that aren’t holiday-related and haven’t been released as a larger figure.
My set included a duplicate of Dobby. I remember that previous sets has problems with duplicates but until now I was fortunate enough to get all unique figures in mine. I’m disappointed to discover that duplicates remain a problem this year. I sent an email to Funko to see if I can get Crookshanks, the figure that I’m missing, and will follow up with their response.
Update: Funko gave me a response. They said that they couldn’t do anything and that I needed to go back to wherever I bought the calendar from. In my case, I bought it from GameStop and they were great. They ordered another calendar for me and they did an exchange. I wish people luck who also got duplicates in getting the missing piece(s).
Below are the pictures from my set. Someone shared her picture of Crookshanks with me. Dobby was in day 6 and day 10 in my set, but that wasn’t where Crookshanks was for the woman who helped me with her picture. This tells me that Funko is not consistent with who is in each day. If so, that explains why there are problems with duplicates.
Additionally, the paint on several of my figures is not very good. For example, the purple paint on Day 5’s Dumbledore bled into the brown of his hat, and Day 9’s Severus Snape has a spot on his nose that looks like a nose piercing. I think Funko needs to work on their quality control.
Below are the figures as I opened them in my set. Keep in mind that the figures in your set might vary from mine.
2020 Funko Harry Potter Advent Calendar |
Day 1 |
Ron Weasley
This is a very Christmasy Ron. He’s wearing a green cap, similar to a took, and is holding a Christmas cracker.
Day 2 |
Harry Potter
This is a very Christmasy Harry. He’s dressed for winter, including a scarf. He’s holding a golden owl, which I assume is supposed to be Hedwig, but I’ll be honest. I don’t understand why Harry is holding a golden owl, since this isn’t something from the books or movies.
Day 3 |
Hedwig
Does Hedwig look a bit fuzzy in this picture? That’s because she is! Harry’s owl is one of two flocked animals, and she looks even cuter in person than in this picture.
Day 4 |
Hermione Granger
Hermione Granger is ready for Christmas. She is casually dressed, with a purple scarf, and is holding a present.
Day 5 |
Albus Dumbledore and Baby Harry Potter
Here we have Albus Dumbledore holding baby Harry Potter. This is the first time we’ve seen a Funko Harry as an infant.
Day 6 |
Dobby
Dobby is seen here holding a sock. I got a duplicate of this figure for days 6 and day 10, so I’m not sure if this is really supposed to be Dobby’s day or Crookshanks’s day (the figure that I’m missing).
Day 7 |
Fred Weasley
Fred is seen here wearing the ‘F’ sweater that his mother knitted for him as a Christmas gift.
Day 8 |
Fang
Hagrid’s boarhound, Fang, is seen here. He is not flocked like two of the animals are.
Day 9 |
Severus Snape
This is professor Severus Snape, wearing the robes he was often seen in while teaching.
Day 10 |
Crookshanks
This is the figure that I was missing, so someone else allowed me to use her picture. Like Fang, Hermione’s cat is not flocked.
Day 11 |
Minerva McGonagall
Professor McGonagall is wearing her emerald green cloak and matching hat.
Day 12 |
Harry Potter
This version of Harry has him holding his invisibility cloak, which was given to him on his first Christmas at Hogwarts.
Day 13 |
Albus Dumbledore
This is Headmaster Dumbledore, looking every bit like a wise old wizard.
Day 14 |
Draco Malfoy
Draco Malfoy is seen here wearing his Slytherin house robe.
Day 15 |
Hermione Granger
This is Hermione after her polyjuice transformation went terribly wrong. She understood after this happened why you don’t use polyjuice potion to transform into an animal.
Day 16 |
Ginny Weasley
Ginny is wearing her Gryffindor house clothes, but no robe.
Day 17 |
Luna Lovegood
Luna Lovegood is wearing her spectrespecs glasses, holding a Quibbler, and has her dirigible plum earrings.
Day 18 |
George Weasley
Like his twin, George is wearing the ‘G’ sweater that his mother, Molly, made for him.
Day 19 |
Neville Longbottom
Neville is seen wearing his Gryffindor house robe and holding the Monster Book of Monsters.
Day 20 |
Fawkes
Dumbledore’s phoenix is the second and last animal of the four that is flocked. This might be my favorite of all 24 figures.
Day 21 |
Ron Weasley
Ron loved his mother but he didn’t like the sweaters that she made him. Here he is wearing the ‘R’ sweater that Molly gave him for Christmas.
Day 22 |
Rubeus Hagrid
Hagrid was able to carry a tree entirely by himself, which he is seen holding here. The tree will be brought into the Great Hall of Hogwarts castle, to be used as a Christmas tree.
Day 23 |
Albus Dumbledore
Dumbledore is seen here wearing a robe and hat that makes him look like Father Christmas. He is holding a present wrapped in silver paper.
Day 24 |
Harry Potter
It should come as no surprise that the final figure is Harry wearing the ‘H’ sweater that Molly Weasley made for him for his first Christmas at Hogwarts.
So, there you go, all 24 figures of the 2020 Harry Potter Funko advent calendar. Now I’m going to share a few more pictures. The first one is the adorable red and green packaging that each figure is wrapped in. One thing confused me about these, though. Some were crinkly plastic, while others were softer plastic, and there was no consistency as to why some were crinkly and others weren’t.
Here is the front and back of the box for this year’s calendar.
The front panel of the box has a velcro tab. When you open the panel, it folds down, exposing the 24 doors and gives you a place to set the figures as you open them. You might want to invest in some museum putty to keep your figures from falling over because they are top-heavy. That’s what I use to keep mine from toppling over.
What do you think? Will you buy this? Which figure is your favorite? Mine is the flocked Fawkes.
Thanks for the descriptions! I was trying to figure out who the girl with the present was, for some reason I didn’t think Hermione.
Disappointing as 11 of the figures were already in 2018s calendar and 2 from 2019s. So less than half in 2020s calendar are new.
I completely agree. It feels like Funko is just milking the fans at this point and I know a lot of people who didn’t buy this particular set because of the duplicates. I wouldn’t have bought it, either, if I didn’t have this website because of my disappointment.
Hi! My daughter received two Malfoys, and seems to be missing Harry Potter with the invisibility cloak. Did you receive an email back from Funko?
I did, and thank you for reminding me. I apologize for the delay in answering you, which will possibly prevent you from getting this corrected.
Funko said that they can’t do anything, that I needed to contact the place where I bought it to get it fixed. I bought mine at GameStop and they were great. I returned my original set and they ordered another one for me, which didn’t have any duplicates. I confess that this was a disappointing response from Funko as I doubt that everyone would have been able to get another set.
Thanks for the article. We just got a repeat Ron on day 4 (same as day 2). Have had the last two advent calendars with no problems though, so maybe we were lucky. Cheers.
It seems that Funko has a quality control issue as there seem to have been a lot of duplicates in the 2020 calendar set. I’m sorry that you were among them. 🙁
I am so annoyed, There are 12 characters in the 2020 advent calender that were in the previous 2 years (combined). 13 if you count that hedwig is a bit fuzzy this year. And more annoyingly, no one seems to have posted anything about it. So basically paying full price for half the characters.
Hi,
the following were already in my 2018 edition
6 – Dobby
7 – Fred Weasley
9 – Severus Snape
10 – Crookshanks
14 – Draco Malfoy
16 – Ginny Weasle y

and
11 – Minerva McGonagall is the same as the one of the 2019 edition
Won’t buy the 2020 edition 🙁

You are not alone in feeling this way. I wouldn’t have bought it if I didn’t want to review it for my site. It was truly disappointing that only half of it was new.
