Harry Potter-inspired ideas for decorating for HalloweenSpooky season is here. The air is getting crisp (unless you live in Florida like I do, where it’s still steamy and hot), ghosts can be seen hanging from trees and in windows, and witches fly with the birds. Ghouls and goblins are preparing to go from house to house, in search of sweets.

This is the perfect time of year for watching any (or all) of the Harry Potter movies. Okay, I admit it, any time of the year is good for that, but I especially love seeing the giant pumpkins that Hagrid grew and Engorgio’d in the Prisoner of Azkaban. Or, maybe I especially love the carved pumpkins that were floating around the Great Hall, along with the candles. Or, why not both?

I’ve decided to challenge myself and see if I can find Halloween-themed Harry Potter items to share. Christmas is easy, but it turns out that Halloween is a little more difficult. I’ve dug deep and found a few items that I think other Potterheads would love. Spoiler alert, there are no costumes in this post. There are plenty of other posts with ideas on dressing up, although there are a few clothing items to be found here. And now, here they are, in no particular order.

Great Hall Hoodie

Sweatshirt with floating candles and pumpkins

I’m not gonna lie, this floating pumpkin and candle sweatshirt is probably my favorite item out of all the ones that I found. I absolutely love how the jack-o-lanterns are floating along with the candles, just like they did in the first book/movie, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (or Philospher’s Stone, depending on what country you are in). This is a beautifully embroidered hoodie.

The default color for this hoodie, also known as a jumper for those of you across the pond in the UK, but the seller is happy to help you find the color that you like best. There are many positive reviews for this item and I’m Siriusly tempted to get it for myself.

Pumpkin Juice Bottle

Bottle with a pumpkin on the top

No Halloween party is complete without servings of pumpkin juice, the chilled drink enjoyed by witches and wizards of every age. The feasts in the Hogwarts Great Hall served this juice in pitchers shaped like a hog’s head, but that’s not the only way to serve it. Or, to display it.

This lovely pumpkin juice bottle would make a great addition to a table or kitchen display, or even on a shelf. It contains a beautiful swirling substance that looks magical when shaken, has twine and brown wax that seals the bottle, and a small pumpkin rests on top. I can see keeping this out year-round, not just for the fall holidays.

Hagrid’s Hut Digital Print

Picture of a cabin with pumpkins around it

This is an original art print that the seller created of Hagrid’s Hut during the fall with pumpkins all around it. It is minimalist in style, meaning there are only shades of grey and black, with some orange, which is truly all that is needed. Had the Forbidden Forest been added to the background, I personally think that it would have made the scene too crowded.

It looks like Hagrid is inside his home because there is smoke coming out of the chimney. Perhaps he is brewing some tea or baking one of his famous (or infamous) rock cakes.

Sorting Hat Halloween Countdown Calendar

Wooden dry erase countdown board with the Sorting Hat on it

This Sorting Hat Halloween countdown calendar is incredibly creative, and I’ve not seen anything like this before. It is handmade from wood, with the Sorting Hat in the middle. The hat is surrounded by several iconic images from the Harry Potter series, including Harry’s glasses and wand, Hedwig and her cage, a broom, the Golden Snitch, and footprints from the Marauders Map.

Included with this is a dry erase pen, and you can write the countdown days onto the hat. This is quite clever because you can start counting down the day after Halloween, because you control the numbers. A lot of countdown calendars include numbers, but are limited to about 30 days from the event being counted down to, but not this one. Well done! 10 points to… well, whatever the seller’s house is.

Death Eaters Only Doormat

Brown fiber floormat that says, "Deatheaters Only"

Every year hoards of children swarm neighborhoods in search of candy. These trick-or-treaters go from door to door in search of these sweets, but imagine if they come to your door and they see this ‘Deatheaters Only’ floor mat? They might pause a moment, pondering their chances of surviving your home, before throwing caution to the wind and ringing the doorbell.

This looks so good that I can forgive the fact that it should really say ‘Death Eaters’, instead of being all one word. However, the seller welcomes custom orders, so I’m sure you can reach out to the seller to ensure that this is spelled correctly and you won’t embarrass yourself in front of your boss, Lord Voldemort. The fiber used is light brown and the seller calls it high pile coir. There is rubber backing, which will keep this from slipping around.

Apothecary Potion Bottle Labels

Printable labels for use on bottles

How can you decorate for All Hallow’s Eve without including potion bottles? Well, you can, but it won’t look complete. This collection of 17 different potion labels will help you give your empty bottles new lives.

Not only are there 17 unique labels, but they also come in both black & white and sepia. And, you can edit certain aspects of each label on Canva. Don’t know how to do that? Good news, the seller includes instructions on what to do if you want to edit them in Canva, but the label names are not editable.

Hagrid’s Hut Sun Catcher

Round, acrylic sun catcher of a cabin and pumpkins

This suncatcher of Hagrid’s Hut with pumpkins around it is stunning! The door and windows have an orange glow and look like there is light shining from within. The pumpkins have varying shades of orange, and are of different sizes. The sky is cloudy and slightly gray, giving a nice overcast look for a fall day.

Be aware that this sun catcher comes in three sizes, with the smallest being quite small. If you purchase this, then be sure to pay attention to the size that you buy. If I were to buy this, I’d get the largest size, which isn’t all that big. However, the smaller or smallest sizes would work well as ornaments for another holiday that is just around the corner…

Accio Candy Sweatshirt

Sweatshirt with a pumpkin and Halloween candyLook at that, another adorable sweatshirt! This Accio Candy! Happy Halloween jumper includes several elements that are familiar to Potterheads, including the Sorting Hat, a round 9-3/4 sign, school books, a wand, Harry’s round glasses, and a Gryffindor scarf.

I like the navy blue sweatshirt for this design, but there are many other colors to choose from that range from dark to light. Regardless of which color you choose, there will be no doubt to anyone seeing you wear this what you want most during this time of the year.

Jar Of Magical Pumpkins

Glass jar with orange pumpkins inside

This glass jar of Magical Pumpkins belongs in every witch’s or wizard’s kitchen and I’m sure it’s a staple for many recipes or potions. I might not know exactly what magical element these gourds will bring to your creations, but I’m sure that they are quite tasty. (No, they aren’t, they are purely decorative and not for eating, but you knew that, right?)

This is wonderfully themed. I love the tag that says, “Harvested from Hagrid’s Hut.” The tiny pumpkins are surrounded with what looks like moss, the wooden lid and spoon go well with the contents of the jar, and the twine knotted at the top is the perfect finishing touch.

There you have it, a nice collection of items that will help you decorate your home for this spooktacular time of year. Every item is sold at Etsy, so you can take pride in knowing that you are helping out small shops with your purchases.

Didn’t see anything that grabbed you? The good news is that there are plenty more options, which you can browse here.
