Vera Bradley's New Luna Lovegood Line

Today is December 6, 2021, and it is also the day that Vera Bradley released their fourth Harry Potter line. This new line is called Luna’s Medallion and it’s a very whimsical design.

If I asked you what color you associate most with Luna Lovegood, there are many colors you could choose, but I’m willing to bet that pink is one of them because of the Spectraspecs that she sometimes had with her and a pink jacket that she once wore. Pink is the color that Vera Bradley decided to go with, and I think it was an excellent choice.

My very first thought when I saw the new line was, “Oh! It’s Luna! I like that, it reminds me of a kaleidoscope.” Here is the pattern:

Design for the Luna's Medallion line from Vera Bradley

However, the more that I looked at the design, the more I liked it and the more that I could see, which is very common with their designs. Each circle is made up of elements that are associated with Luna. These include:

  • Spectrespecs (worn by Luna)
  • Dirigible plums (sometimes referred to as radishes and Luna wore them as earrings)
  • Luna’s patronus (a hare)
  • Colors worn by Luna

Even the circle is reminiscent of Luna, although only to people who have read the books. There is a beautiful scene in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows where Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger go to Luna’s house to talk with her father about the Hallows. Luna isn’t there but Harry goes into her bedroom. He looks up and sees what she painted on her ceiling, pictures of him, Ron, Hermione, Neville Longbottom, and Ginny Weasley, and the words, “Friends… Friends… Friends…,” intertwine between each person. I SO wanted to see that come to life in the movies but it was left out.

Anyway, the circle pattern seen here reminds me of what Luna painted. Granted, the word friends isn’t on it, but I can’t help but think that this was inspired by Luna’s art.

Here is a close-up of the design, in case you couldn’t see it well in the picture above.

With only 16 items, this is a very small release. The previous line, Forbidden Forest, had well over 50 items. But the items chosen are popular ones, so I am sure that they will sell well. Speaking of selling, you won’t be able to rush out to your favorite authorized retailer and buy anything from this line because they are online exclusives. You can only buy them on Vera Bradley’s website, and later on sites like eBay.

Examples Of Luna’s Medallion Merchandise

I am not going to list all 16 items but here are some of my favorites. My only regret about this new line is that they didn’t include a ditsy ReActive Crossbody Sling.

Luna Bag Charm

Luna Bag Charm from the Luna's Medallion collection

Retail Price $20

Oh my gosh! How adorable is this? It is a set of three charms that you can clip to your purse or bag, and all three items are inspired by Luna.

It includes a pair of spectrespecs, her patronus, which is a hare or rabbit, and a heart. Why a heart? Because Luna has one of the biggest hearts of any character in the entire series.

There is also a metal carabiner-style clip that you can use to easily attach this to your bag.

Plush Throw Blanket

Plush Throw Blanket from the Luna's Medallion collection

Retail Price $65

This fleece blanket is super soft and at 50″W x 80″H, it is larger than many other throw blankets. I can speak from experience on this because I have a lot of Harry Potter blankets and they tend to be on the smaller side, since 48″ x 60″ is common. This means there is more material to keep you cozy and warm.

The picture makes the design look small but the physical blanket lets you see the design much clearer than what you see here.

RFID All in One Crossbody Bag

RFID All in One Crossbody Bag from the Luna's Medallion collection

Retail Price $80

This is called “All in One” because it is a wallet and purse combination bag. You can use the included 6″ wrist strap to make it a wristlet or the included 56″ strap to wear it as a purse. You can even use it without a strap to keep it in a larger bag as a wallet, although it is considerably larger than the typical Vera Bradley wallet.

Inside you’ll find 10 pockets for your cards, a place for your bills and coins, and a small zippered compartment. It’s perfect for use on days when you don’t need to take a lot of items with you.

Sling Backpack

Sling Backpack from the Luna's Medallion collection

Retail Price $65

This is a combination purse and backpack that is work across the shoulder as a sling. It’s a wonderful size and you’ll be surprised by how much it can hold. There are three external pockets, including one on the back that is where I keep my wallet when I use mine.

The inside is open, so you have plenty of space in there to carry what you need. It’s very comfortable to wear and it doesn’t hurt my shoulders or back.

Small Vera Tote Bag

Small Vera Tote Bag from the Luna's Medallion collection

Retail Price $135

Don’t let the word ‘small’ in the name of this bag fool you, it’s plenty big, measuring 11″W x 11.25″H x 4.5″D.

The outside has a total of three pockets: a side zip pocket, a hidden top pocket, and a wand pocket (yes, you read that right!, you can store your wand with this tote). Inside there are six slip pockets.

This is the only bag that doesn’t use the Luna’s Medallion and instead has the spectrespecs  made from the interior ditsy material, as well as various design elements floating around the glasses.

Travel Mug

Travel Mug from the Luna's Medallion collection

Retail Price $25

This mug holds up to 16 oz. of hold or cold drinks. The lid flips open but is securely held in place when closed so that your drink won’t spill out.

The lid is a lovely shade of pink that matches the rest of the mug, and the inside tumbler is pale pink. The exterior is covered in small spectrespecs in varying positions.

If you are new to Vera Bradley then you might not know what I meant above when I used the word “ditsy”. They always have a different pattern on the inside of their purses that compliments the design on the outside. They sometimes use that inside pattern on the outside of items, such as with this travel mug. When they use the inside pattern on the outside, Vera Bradley calls that a ditsy pattern, although I have no idea why. In this case, the mug uses the ditsy version Luna’s Medallion, called Luna’s Spectrespecs.

Triple Zip Hipster Crossbody Bag

Triple Zip Hipster Crossbody Bag from the Luna's Medallion collection

Retail Price $85

This is one of my favorite styles from Vera Bradley because I love pockets! The outside has four pockets: two on the front, which you can see here, and two on the back. One of the back pockets is the perfect size for cell phones and the other is a wand pocket for keeping your wand safe when you aren’t using it. To my knowledge, this is the only authorized brand that includes a pocket for wands.

Zip ID Case

Zip ID Case from the Luna's Medallion collection

Retail Price $20

This is the perfect size for holding your driver’s license and a card or two, plus a small amount of money. I have three of these and I take them with me to theme parks to hold my annual passes and a few other cards that I use when I go.

Interestingly, this is the first of the Harry Potter lines where Vera Bradley didn’t make a matching lanyard, so you’ll need to attach it to a lanyard that doesn’t match. In my case, I’ll add it to my Forbidden Forest lanyard and it will look fine.

As I said above, there are 16 total items in this line so there are more that you can choose from if you are interested in buying anything. You can see all of them on Vera Bradley’s website.

What is your favorite? What do you plan on getting, or hope to receive as a gift? Let me know in the comments below.
