Hermione Granger is the smartest witch of her age, thought it might be argued that she is the smartest witch in all of Hogwarts during her time there. Both Ron Weasley and Harry Potter are aware of this, though they rarely speak of it.
One notable exception occurred in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt. 1 when Harry tried to sneak off on his own. Ron stopped him and told Harry that he (Harry) needs them (Ron and Hermione), and that they wouldn’t get far without Hermione. Ron didn’t want Harry to tell Hermione what he said, but he was right. Harry could have never defeated Voldemort without Hermione’s help.
It is impossible to imagine the Harry Potter stories without Hermione, and I can totally understand why Ron fell in love with her. And, of the many witches and wizards that grace the pages of J.K. Rowling’s books, Hermione is one of the few who actually knows how to use Muggle postage.
