The San Diego Comic Con in July of 2016 was exciting to a lot of people for many different reasons, but it was exciting to me because it was this event that unveiled the very first in the line of 'Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them' Funko Pop figures! These toys are a natural follow-up to the Harry Potter Funko Pop figures.
As of this writing (July 21, 2016), there is only one figure. However, the back of the box asks people to buy all the figures in this line, which tells me that there will be more. I'll add them as they are released, so check back here often to see the other characters from the new series of movies.
10/25/2016 Update: Funko has added more characters to the line of Fantastic Beasts Funkos. Hooray!
I am adding new items to this page as Funko releases them so you can use this page as a Fantastic Beasts Funko checklist, or to seek out the figure (or figures) that you just have to have and I'll show you where you can buy them.
Pop! Wave One |
Wave one was released in 2016, starting in July. There are 14 sets, including 6 exclusives. |
01 - Newt Scamander
(SDCC / Barnes & Noble Exclusive)
Newt Scamander is the main character of Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them. He is wearing his blue coat, gold vest, grey pants, and brown shoes. He also has a scarf, his wand, and his briefcase, which is an important item in the story.
This was a San Diego Comic Con exclusive that was later sold at Barnes & Noble.
02 - Newt Scamander, With Egg
The second version of Newt has him holding his wand and an egg. He is wearing the same outfit as the first version, his dapper blue coat and dress clothes.
03 - Queenie Goldstein
Queenie Goldstein is Tina's younger sister and is very different from her sister. She is kind and caring, and was happy to look after Newt Scamander and Jacob Kowalski when Tina brought them home.
04 - Tina Goldstein
Tina Goldstein is Queenie's older sister and is cautious and reserved. She would have been happy getting rid of Newt and Jacob but circumstances prevented such an action, which she was later happy about.
05 - Jacob Kowalski
Jacob Kowalski was a nomaj (i.e. non-magical person, aka muggle) who wanted nothing more than to open a bakery but found himself swept up in a magical adventure, thanks to a mix up with his and Newt Scamander's briefcases.
06 - Seraphina Picquery
Seraphina Picquery was the President of the Magical Congress of the United States of America (aka MACUSA), which is comparable to the Minister of Magic in Great Britain's. She is all business and does what she thinks is best for her country, though we later find out that her judgement isn't always the best. **Cough** Percival Graves **Cough**
07 - Percival Graves
Percival Graves was an Auror and Director of Magical Security at MACUSA. We saw in the first Fantastic Beasts movie that he ruled with a very stern hand and was swift to dole out justice, but we found out that there was a good reason for this.
08 - Niffler, Holding Coins
Newt Scamander carried a lot of different creatures in his briefcase, some of which escaped. The most vexing of the escaped creatures was this cute little guy, known as a niffler. Nifflers are excellent as sniffing out and finding treasures and he became the bane of Newt's existence for a period of time. We learned that nifflers have a pouch that magically expands to hold far more than one would expect, much like Hermione Granger's magically charmed beaded handbag.
08 - Niffler, Flocked, Holding Coins
(Hot Topic Exclusive)
This version of the niffler looks identical to the one above, except that it is flocked, which makes the black part of him fuzzy. I have this version and the flocking had a strange smell when I first took him out of the box but the smell eventually went away.
This is a Hot Topic exclusive.
09 - Niffler, Holding Coin Purse
(Target Exclusive)
This version of the niffler has him holding a purse, which he nicked from an unsuspecting person.
This is a Target exclusive.
10 - Newt Scamander And Pickett
(SDCC / Hot Topic Exclusive)
Newt made sure that the needs were met for all of the creatures in his care but he had a soft spot for this little Bowtruckle that he named Pickett.
This is a 2016 San Diego Comic Con exclusive that was later sold at Hot Topic.
11 - Demiguise
This is a Demiguise, one of the creatures that escaped from Newt's briefcase. He is friendly, loves lollipops, and can turn invisible, which made him very difficult to track down.
11 - Demiguise, Invisible
(Amazon Exclusive)
This version of the demiguise shows what he looks like, if I can use that term, when he's invisible.
This is an Amazon exclusive.
12 - Occamy
(SDCC / Hot Topic Exclusive)
The Occamy is snakelike creature with wings that will change size to fill whatever space it finds itself in. This beautifully colored Occamy is larger than most Funko figures. It is 6" Super Sized Pop.
This is a 2017 San Diego Comic Con exclusive that was later sold at Hot Topic.
13 - Gellert Grindelwald
(NYCC / Barnes & Noble Exclusive)
The end of the first Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them movie revealed that the man we thought of as Percival Graves was actually villain Gellert Grindelwald. This exclusive Funko version shows Gellert, complete with one black eye and one silver.
This is a 2017 New York Comic Con (NYCC) exclusive that was later sold at Barnes & Noble.
Pop! Wave Two |
Wave two was released in 2018, starting in September. It has a surprising number of exclusives and even has a Chase edition, which is the first Chase to appear in the Harry Potter Funko series. Wave two features characters as they are seen in the second film, The Crimes Of Grindelwald. |
14 - Newt Scamander
This is the first of the wave two for the 2018 Fantastic Beasts series. This is how Newt Scamander looks in the second film, The Crimes Of Grindelwald. He's got his wand at the ready, just in case Grindelwald should make an appearance.
14 - Newt Scamander
(Chase)
For the first time in the Harry Potter/Fantastic Beasts series there is a Chase figure. For those who don't know, "Chase" is the term given to a randomly placed figure that differs from the common one. In this case, the common Newt is the one just above this one, and the Chase version is this one where Newt is holding a copy of his book, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.
Each Chase has its own ratio and in this case it is 1/6. Meaning, one out of every six common Newts might be the Chase. I saw might because you are more likely to have this happen if you buy from an online source. It's a different story in physical stores because it's rather common for those to disappear quickly as people scoop them up, some to be kept and others to be flipped on sites such as eBay for a tidy profit.
This is what the box looks like for the Chase version of Newt. Notice the yellow sticker that says, "Limited Edition Chase."
15 - Albus Dumbledore
The second Fantastic Beasts introduces us to a very young Albus Dumbledore, and this Funko figure is of actor Jude Law's Dumbledore. He looks very dapper!
16 - Gellert Grindelwald
This version of Gellert Grindelwald looks a bit edgier than the one from wave one, where he was dressed as Percival Graves. Now we get to see how Grindelwald looks when he dresses as he likes. It definitely has a steampunk vibe to it.
17 - Thestral
We first saw thestrals in the fifth Harry Potter story, Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix. That was when we learned that only people who have seen death can see these magical creatures. We get to see more of them in the second Fantastic Beasts film.
This creature is sort of a cross between a dragon and a horse. It's all black except for milky white eyes, has wings and a very skeletal body. Despite their rather terrifying look, they can be sweet and friendly to those who aren't afraid to get to know them, such as Luna Lovegood.
18 - Chupacabra
The chupacabra is a mythical creature from Latin America. Most people know it as something that likes to attack goats but Newt Scamander took the time to get to know it a bit better than the urban legends about it.
19 - Pickett
Pickett is a bowtruckle with a bit of sassy attitude. Newt loves this little go, even if he does get the occasional raspberry from the creature, which is the look this Pop! has captured.
20 - Matagot
The matagot is a creature that looks very cat-like but has very large canine teeth. This rendition of the matagot glows in the dark. Very cool!
21 - Chupacabra
(Hot Topic Exclusive)
This is the second version of the famed chupacabra. It looks very similar to the common version except that its mouth is open, as though its getting ready to bite...
This is a Hot Topic exclusive.
22 - Niffler 10"
(Target Exclusive)
This is a 10 inch tall niffler and he's adorable! He's holding a pocket watch that is sure to be made of pure silver, since nifflers are masters at finding treasures.
This is a Target exclusive.
This item is estimated to be available sometime in October, 2018. Click one of the links below to pre-order.
23 - Newt Scamander
(Barnes & Noble Exclusive)
This is a wonderful depiction of Newt as he steps into his briefcase to visit the creatures he has hidden in there. Hermione Granger would be impressed with the Undetectable Extension charm Newt placed on his case.
This is a Barnes & Noble exclusive.
24 - Mooncalf
(Walmart Exclusive)
This is a mooncalf, which is a very gentle creature that comes out at night.
This is a Walmart exclusive.
26 - Fwooper
(Kohl's Exclusive)
The fwooper is a magical bird with beautiful colored feathers that likes to sing. This is a flocked version of this creature.
This is a Kohl's exclusive.
This item is estimated to be available sometime in October, 2018. Click one of the links below to pre-order.
27 - Newt Scamander
(Michael's Exclusive)
This version of Newt has him holding a postcard from Paris. This is appropriate because Paris is one of the places featured in the Crimes Of Grindelwald film.
This is a Michael's exclusive.
2 Pack - Baby Nifflers
Nifflers are adorable but they've got nothing on baby nifflers! These two babies are colored different than the adult nifflers we've seen. One is black with brown ad the other is tan with white.
Keychains |
The keychains are much smaller versions of the Pop! Vinyl characters with keychains attached on top. If you want to display these instead of use them as intended then you can unscrew and remove the keychains, but be aware there will be a hole on top of each character's head. |
Keychains: Series 1
There are a handful of keychains in the Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them line, which are smaller versions of the Funko Pop! toys. There are two in this first series of Fantastic Beasts keychains:
- Newt Scamander holding his briefcase
- Niffler holding gold coins.
Keychains: Series Two
Series two adds two more keychains to the Fantastic Beasts line. These look every bit as great as series one. These include:
- Pickett the bowtruckle
- Thestral
Rock Candy |
Funko added Fantastic Beasts to their Rock Candy line in the later part of 2018. |
Albus Dumbledore
This is a good likeness of the younger Albus Dumbledore. He is dressed in muggle attire, including a trench coat and hat.
Newt Scamander
Rock Candy figures are more realistic looking than the Pop! line and the figure of Newt is no exception. This looks quite a bit like actor Eddie Redmayne's Newt Scamander.
SuperCute Plush |
SuperCute plush are appropriately named because they are, well, super cute! These should appeal to anyone who loves stuffed animals. |
Fwooper
This stuffed animal version of a fwooper is lovely. Bright red with blue and pink. This will be hard for many fans to resist.
Here is a video of me showing what the San Diego Comic Con exclusive Funko of Newt Scamander looks like. Be sure to watch through the video for an opportunity to earn points for your House (I've asked at least one question in the video that pertains to Newt).
