June 28, 2018 Update: The answer to this question is yes! Read my follow-up article here, which includes where you can preorder the dolls.
Last month (April, 2018) I read an article from a site called Papusile Mele which said that toy maker Mattel will be releasing at least six different Harry Potter action figure dolls late in 2018. The dolls include Albus Dumbledore, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Harry Potter, Ginny Weasley, and Minerva McGonagall.
This was very exciting news, but I did research for more information about this impending release and couldn’t find anything else about this, so began to wonder if this was true.
I’ll be honest, I don’t know. The website I visited doesn’t say how they came to have this knowledge, so I contacted Mattel and asked them. They responded with the following response:Hi Rochelle,
Thanks for reaching out to us! Regrettably, we don’t have any information to share on new releases until they actually launch. Please keep your eyes on our website for the latest updates!

Further questions? Yes, I have them, but this email made it obvious that Mattel isn’t going to answer them. Their response didn’t help much. Or, did it?… The one thing the customer service representative didn’t do was debunk information about the dolls. The email doesn’t say that they have no plans to release these toys.
Although I am not confident enough to bet on it, I strongly suspect that these dolls WILL be released, and that’s pretty darn exciting!

If you look closely at the picture of the toys you’ll notice that the men differ from the women in pretty much the same way Barbie dolls do. The females have real hair and the males have molded hair. Given that Mattel also makes Barbies, this doesn’t surprise me, but it does seem odd. Maybe it’s more difficult to make fake hair that’s short without it ending up sticking out straight. That gives me even more certainty that these dolls are in production.
So, assuming that it’s true and we will see these later this year, which one do you want most? Let me know in the comments below. Personally, I am torn between Dumbledore and McGonagall.
