A little over a month ago I wrote an article about the passing of Vanessa Neimeyer, and beloved witch in our fandom. Today I am writing about how another member of our fandom has memorialized Vanessa in a wonderfully magical way.

Angie knew that she was going to be meeting actor Tom Felton, who portrayed Draco Malfoy, at the 2019 LeakyCon and she decided to make a chocolate frog with Vanessa’s picture in it. Her intention was to give them to people at the convention who knew Vanessa, and to give one to Tom. She also shared a picture of her work on a Harry Potter group we both belong to, which is how I found out about it.

I could be wrong, but I suspect that the response she got was a bit overwhelming. What she created was amazing and people were eager to tell her exactly that. Angie has allowed me to share her picture, which I am grateful for because the wizarding world deserves to see her labor of love. It is proof of how much Vanessa meant to our community.

As I said earlier, Angie wanted to give one of her cards to Tom Felton, which she did. We all know how much Vanessa loved Tom and she often said that Tom was the nicest guy. Angie discovered that this was a very accurate description of Tom.

She said that Tom seemed to take more time than she expected with her. He took a moment to gaze at Vanessa’s image within the chocolate frog card, and commented on her last name, which he hadn’t known. He then handed the card back to Angie, who told him that the card was for him to keep. Tom held the card up to his heart and said that he would keep it close for the rest of the day. Learning of this caused a tear or two to be shed by me, I’m not ashamed to say. Here is Tom with Angie and her husband.​
