Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (the titled was changed to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone for US publications) was published in 1997. It was published without any fanfare and I doubt anyone stood in line to buy it. It was just another book among the many that were published that year for children.
And yet, it wasn't just another book. It was the book that ignited the world's love of The Boy Who Lived and all things magical. Harry Potter found out he was a wizard and we learned about the wizarding world along with him.
In this story, Harry attends his first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He, along with his friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, try to figure out what is hidden under the terrifying giant dog that has three heads and solve the mystery of Nicholas Flamel.
Along the way Harry learns the truth about his parents death, he takes an instant dislike to his nemesis Draco Malfoy, and he meets a variety of magical creatures.
