The Christmas season is upon us and I’m listening to some of my favorite classic Christmas songs as I write this. I’m currently listening to one of the Firestone Christmas records, for those of you old enough to remember those, and the song playing is “The Little Drummer Boy” by Harry Simeone Choral, which I remember listening to as a child on my Bugs Bunny record player, but that’s a story for another day. I might be a bit late in writing this, but not too late. The purpose of this post is to share some 2023 Harry Potter Christmas gift ideas, for those of you wondering what to get the Potterheads on your list.
My go-to site these days for unique Harry Potter merchandise is Etsy. They have an amazing selection of items that are created by the sellers in most cases, and that you can’t get anywhere else. Here are some items that will be appreciated and things that you friends and loved one probably don’t yet have.
Daily Prophet Christmas Ornaments
There are a total of seven different newspaper ornaments to choose from, including one that comes with a blue Ford Anglia. I’m not positive, but I think these are a nice size, not tiny but not the actual size of newspapers. They would also be great just as decorations, not specifically for a tree.
Custom Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle Ornament
This customized ornament is perfect if you know the Hogwarts house or houses of the person (or people) you are giving this to because you can choose the houses. When you do, the ornament will include several elements specific to whoever you are giving it to, including hair color and style, Hogwarts house scarf, and name(s).
Custom Hogwarts Letter Ornament
This is another customized ornament and I like that it doesn’t look like the traditional Hogwarts letter that Harry Potter got before he knew he was a wizard. It is made of wood and is laser engraved. There are three possible options: You can choose one of the four Hogwarts house, add a name, and add a year, each of which will add to the cost.
Mermaid Stained Glass Window Ornament
This decoration is a beautiful recreation of the stained glass window that Harry Potter saw when he visited the Prefect bathroom. It’s a much prettier view of what mermaids look like in the wizarding world, although Harry would soon learn that the real creatures are rather terrifying and look nothing like the vain merwoman seen here.
All Seven Harry Potter Books As Ornaments
This isn’t one but seven ornaments, with each one a miniature recreation of the books with art by Mary GrandPré, who was the original artist to design the books for Scholastic in the US. Every Potterhead will know exactly what these are and will love adding them as tree decorations.
Felix Felicis Ornament
Does someone on your gift list need a little luck? Then this is the perfect ornament to give, since it is a small vial full of the magical potion meant to bring exactly that to whoever drinks it, also commonly known as Liquid Luck. But, be sure the person uses it wisely and doesn’t use it to gain a competitive advantage for a certain wizard flying game…
Hogwarts House Common Room Ornament
Do you know the Hogwarts house for the person you are buying an ornament for? Then take a look at this option. The seller has a beautifully designed ornament for all four houses: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff. Each shows a delightfully festive depiction of the chosen room.
Owls And Letters Candle Carousel
If you are paying attention to the title of this post then you will realize that this item doesn’t match, but it was so adorable that I couldn’t resist including this carousel. Every witch and wizard eagerly awaits the day that he or she gets an invitation to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and that’s exactly what this depicts. All you need to do is place it on top of a glass candle holder that measures 80mm / 8cm in diameter, light the candle, and wait for the heat from the flame to work its magic and make the owls fly in a circle.
