By now you are probably aware that the LEGO® company will be releasing new Harry Potter sets, which they originally stopped selling in 2011, as well as sets from the Fantastic Beasts movies. The release date for some of the new sets, possibly all (it’s too early as of this writing to know yet), will be August of 2018.
LEGO® just released pictures and details of the first set based on the Fantastic Beasts film, The Crimes Of Grindelwald. It’s a small set, but it’s quite lovely.
As you can see, it includes a vintage looking carriage that has a removable top, a thestral to pull the carriage, and two minifigs. The minifigs are of Seraphina Picquery and Gellert Grindelwald.
Take a close look at their hands. Sure, they are both holding wands, but do you notice anything else? Their other hands are holding what looks like water in motion. These are LEGO® brick adaptations of a magical spell being cast by each minifig. I love this detail!!!
As for the thestral, it is the second time this magical creature has been included in a Harry Potter LEGO® set (the first time was in set 5378, the third version of the Hogwarts Castle. I like this one much better (the picture below is of the original version, which you can compare to the beast seen above).
So, I’m wondering. Am I the only one who is thinking about removing the top of the carriage and using this for one of the earlier Hogwarts Castle sets? It would be a perfect fit because 2nd through 7th year students ride in carriages pulled by thestrals as they make their way from the Hogsmeade train station to their school. Please share your thoughts on this set in the comments below.
