The final book in the Harry Potter series was published on July 21, 2007. Or so we thought. Fast forward to 2016 and you will see that there was a London play called Harry Potter and the Cursed Child that took place 19 years after the 7th book.
The play was a collaboration between J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany. The world premiere for the play was July 30, 2016, in London's West End. The very next day, July 31, was the publication date for a book version of the play's script, which also happens to be the birthday of a certain boy wizard!
The book you see here is that script. I want to make that clear, since it is easy to make the mistake of thinking it is a formal book. As of this writing, the book has not yet been published, so no one knows what it will look, including the book's cover (the cover you see here is one possibility).
Also, this is the rehearsal edition of the book. Think about that for a moment... That probably means there will be another edition published after the play opens and is tweaked. In fact, rumor has it that there will be another book called the Definitive Collector's Edition, but, if true, the title could change.
So now you know what this book is and isn't. Does it matter to you that it is a rehearsal script? It doesn't bother me. Although it is possible that the play might eventually be written in book format there is no guarantee of this. I'm one of many people who won't be able to see the play so I'm thrilled to have the opportunity of getting this book and reading it for myself. It will also be interesting to see how it changes, if there is another script published after this one.
Book #8:
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
(Rehearsal Edition)
Here is a video that I made explaining what the Rehearsal Edition is and isn't.
