This is the third variation of the Hogwarts Express but not the last (there was one more full sized train and one mini train after this one). What makes this particular version of the train unique from the other four is that it is motorized. Yes, you read that correctly, this train has a real motor and runs on LEGO® train tracks!
The train itself is also a little different than the other full sized trains. It has a passenger compartment and the engine, just like the others do, but it also has a small coal car that you can use to "fuel" the train (it actually runs on a 9V battery, not coal). There is a speed regulator so you can change the speed of the train.
The roof of the passenger compartment comes off so you can add Harry Potter and Ron Weasley, along with Hedwig and Scabbers. But watch out for the Dementor! He is searching the train to find escaped prisoner Sirius Black. Fortunately, Professor Lupin is also on the train ready to hand out chocolate bars to anyone who needs some.
There is another aspect of this set that makes it unique among the Hogwarts Express train sets. It is the only one that includes the Hogsmeade Station. The station is rather large and you can buy a train ticket from inside. This would be a great set to combine with the Shrieking Shack, which includes Honeydukes.
This playset comes with train tracks. There are just enough that you can run the train in a circle. The great thing about this being a LEGO® set is that you can buy more train tracks and build the tracks as large as you want.
