2015 saw an addition to the line of Harry Potter merchandise that I never thought we'd see (or, to be honest, never thought about at all) - Harry Potter lipstick. Yes, you read that right, there is now a line of lipstick that was inspired by the characters and terms from the Harry Potter stories.
There are a total of 17 colors by LA Splash cosmetics in a product line that they call Smitten Liptint Mousse, which is a fancy way of saying liquid lipstick or lip gloss. If you've ever wanted to wear Harry Potter lipstick, now is your chance.
Before I get to all 17 of the colors, I need to get something off my chest. I strongly suspect that the people at LA Splash cosmetics have not read the Harry Potter stories because some of their names are baffling. It is my opinion that several of the colors are improperly named, making it appear that no one involved truly understood what they were making.
The names might be a bit off, but this is a great idea! I might not have know that I needed this, but now that I have seen them, I know that I do! I'm sure that this line of Harry Potter lipstick will be wildly popular!
Alastor is medium blue and the name refers to Alastor Moody, better known as Mad-Eye Moody. They chose blue for this name because the color of Mad-Eye Moody's magical eye was a vivid, electric blue.
Alastor is color #14316.
Bellatrix is a deep, dark purple that is almost black, and the name refers to Bellatrix Lestrange. I'm scratching my head over this one because I cannot figure out how purple relates to Bellatrix. Inflamed is a deep red that would have been a better choice for Bellatrix since that's close to the lipstick color she wore in the movies.
Bellatrix is color #14309.
Bewitched is fuchsia. The name refers to a man who has fallen under the spell of a woman, where it can be said that he has been bewitched.
Bewitched is color #14305.
Charmed is a color that I'm not quire sure how to describe, maybe nude or peachy red? As to the meaning of the name, I think it might be a nod to the TV show about three sisters who found out that they were witches and had magical abilities. Charms is also a class taught at Hogwarts that instructs students how to cast magical spells that change or add properties to objects.
Charmed is color #14301.
Enchanted is a deep, dark pink and the name refers to having the magical ability to magically influence someone.
Enchanted is color #14304.
Ginny is salmony pink and the name refers to Ginny Weasley. I'm not sure why they chose this color for Ginny because Ginny has red hair, not this color. Personally, I think the color for Hypnotized would have been better for Ginny because it is fiery red, much like Ginny's hair and personality.
Ginny is color #14314.
Hermione is pink, and the name refers to Hermione Granger. I'm not sure why they named this color after Hermione but my guess is that it is because this is a feminine color and Hermione was feminine. Maybe?
Hermione is color #14313r.
Hypnotized is deep red but I think they were stretching things a bit by including this in their line of Harry Potter lipsticks because hypnosis has nothing to do with magic. I suppose you could say that being hypnotized is sort of like being under a spell?
Hypnotized is color #14303.
Inflamed is deep red and the name refers to fire. This is another color that doesn't have anything to do with magic, but I suppose you could stretch a bit and say that this relates to the witches were burned at the stake during the Salem witch trials.
Inflamed is color #14302.
Lavender is, well, lavender, which is a light purple, and the name refers to Lavender Brown. They chose lavender for this name for obvious reasons...
Lavender is color #14315.
Love Good is a red that is so dark it is almost grey. The name refers to refers to Luna Lovegood. I'm really not sure why they chose this color to represent Luna but I'm just glad that she's included in the line of liptints.
Love Good is color #14311.
Nagini is dark green and the name refers to Lord Voldemort's snake, Nagini. They chose green for this name because green.
Nagini is color #14307.
Nymph Adora is brownish red and the name refers to Nymphadora Tonks. I'm not sure why they chose this color for Tonks. It is my opinion that bubblegum pink would have been a much better color because Tonks could change her looks at will and often chose bubblegum pink as the color of her hair.
Nymph Adora is color #14312.
Ravens Claw is a red so deep that it is almost black and the name refers to Ravenclaw, one of the four school Houses. Would someone please explain to me why they choose red for Ravenclaw? The colors for Ravenclaw are blue and grey, and the claws of raven are black. They completely missed the mark with the name of this one.
Ravens Claw is color #14310.
Severus is turquoise and the name refers to Severus Snape. Wow. I see what they were going for, but I disagree with it. Severus was the head of Slytherin House, whose color was green, but wouldn't it have been better if they had chosen a true shade of green instead of one that's blueish-green?
Severus is color #14317.
Sirius is deep, dark blue and the name refers to Sirius Black. For the love of Harry! What the heck does blue have to do with Sirius? Isn't his surname obvious enough? Why did they go with blue for Sirius when they should have gone with BLACK?
Sirius is color #14308.
Spellbound is dark brown and the name refers to what it's called when you are under a magical spell.
Spellbound is color #14306.
